Knights Volleyball rounds out tourney with double sweep

The North Platte Community College volleyball team swept both of its opponents in the final leg of a tournament in Columbus Saturday afternoon.

The Knights played the Dakota College at Bottineau Lumberjacks first and sealed the victory with set scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-14.

Vanessa Wood and Jaelyn Dicke each came away from the match with double-doubles. Wood had 14 kills and Dicke had 10. Each went for 11 digs.

Sam Riggles racked up 11 more kills for the Knights. Elsie Ottun added 19 assists while Aubrey Grant offered 16. EmiLee Walnofer tallied nine digs of her own.

North Platte then faced off with the Neosho County Community College Panthers. The Panthers are currently sitting 18th in the nation in the NJCAA DII Volleyball Rankings.

The Knights beat them with sets of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-8.

Wood led the action for that match as well with 14 kills. Riggles and Shamia Grandison each stepped in with seven. Ottun recorded 13 assists while Grant had 8. Walnofer contributed 15 digs, and Ottun had 11.

The Knights improve to 12-16 overall.

"I thought today was a good day for us," said NPCC Volleyball Head Coach Alexa McCall. "In both games we controlled the ball really well. Our serving helped us today and allowed a lot of opportunities offensively."

The Knights will head west for their next set of matches. They will play Trinidad State College at 4:30 p.m. Friday and follow that up with a match against Laramie County Community College at 7 p.m. as part of a triangular in Cheyenne, Wyo.
