Knights drop final matches in Colorado

La Junta, Colo. - Knights Volleyball rounded out the final day of the Otero Junior College Tournament with a double loss. They fell 1-3 Saturday to both Dodge City Community College and Lamar Community College. 

The set scores for the Dodge City match were: 19-25, 22-25, 25-21 and 12-25. 

North Platte Community College's Vanessa Wood led with nine kills, while her teammates, Jaelyn Dicke and Avah Steggall, had eight and seven kills, respectively. Elsie Ottun came through with 15 assists for NPCC. Wood had 14 digs, and Dicke had nine. 

The Lamar match saw set scores of: 26-28, 19-25, 25-23 and 20-25. That time around, Wood and Dicke each tallied 13 kills. Dicke also recorded 17 digs, while EmiLee Walnofer had 12. Ottun provided 11 assists, and Aubrey Grant posted 10. 

"There were times that we were competing really hard and looked good and just needed to be more consistent," said NPCC volleyball head coach Alexa McCall. "We are taking steps in the right direction but need to continue to use every opportunity and not let them slip through our hands." 

The Knights are now 1-8 on the season. 

They will stay in state for the next match – taking on Nebraska Wesleyan at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
