Knights fall to UNK in five sets

The North Platte Community College Knights volleyball team battled hard but ultimately sustained a 2-3 loss to the University of Nebraska Kearney JV Wednesday night on the Knights' home court.

The teams were relatively matched in the beginning, separated by just a point or two for most of the first set. The Knights pulled ahead toward the end of that set, beating UNK 25-22. They duplicated the score in set two.

UNK then turned the tide - downing NPCC 15-25 in sets three and four. The Knights ultimately fell in the fifth set, 4-15.

Katy Bartell, of Eustis, had 21 digs in the match. Kim Krise, of Briggsdale, Colo., had 13 kills, followed by Morgan Ramsey, of Bartlett, with six and Payton Hoatson, of Sutherland, with five.

Madi Neely, of Broken Bow, added six serving aces, and Allie Schneider, of Humphrey, contributed 23 assists.

The Knights are now 16-13 on the season.

"We played really well the first two sets against a good team," said NPCC Head Volleyball Coach Alexa McCall. "We got them out of system and executed well. We struggled a bit in the last three sets to get things going. I thought we served really well tonight."

The Knights will travel south for their next game. They play McCook Community College at 7 p.m. Friday.
