NPCC Volleyball 1-1 at season opener

The North Platte Community College Knights volleyball team started its season out with one win and one loss Friday in Beatrice.

The Knights competed at the RKP Invite and dropped the first game to Highland Community College with sets of: 19-25, 25-20, 22-25 and 17-25.

Morgan Ramsey, of Bartlett, led the Knights with 11 kills in that game, and Kimberlyn Krise, of Briggsdale, Colo., was right behind her with nine. Allie Schneider, of Humphrey, put up 41 assists, and Katy Bartell, of Eustis, went for 20 digs.

"I thought we played well in the first game against a good team," said NPCC Head Volleyball Coach Alexa McCall. "You could tell we were just a bit nervous and made some mistakes."

The Knights then battled Cloud County Community College – scoring a win after pushing the Thunderbirds to five sets: 25-18, 10-25, 33-31, 18-25, and 15-6.

Ramsey had 16 kills that time around, while Payton Hoatson, of Sutherland, added 13. Madison Neely, of Broken Bow, stepped in with four blocks. Schneider notched 59 assists, and Bartell contributed 34 digs.

"Against Cloud, I thought we played with better execution," McCall said. "Our response after the second set was what we needed, and we executed really well in the fifth. I am looking for us to really carry that momentum into tomorrow against two more solid teams."

Action continues at 9 a.m. Saturday as the Knights play Colby Community College. That will be followed by a game against Coffeyville Community College at 11 a.m.

Both games will be broadcast on 98.1 FM and northplattepost.com/category/live-streams.

The Knights are now 1-1 on the season.
