Knights remain perfect in Region IX play

North Platte, Neb. – North Platte finished with three players in double figures in a 60-45 win over Southeast Community College on Saturday afternoon.

In the win, the Knights improve to 16-9 overall and 4-0 in region play. Southeast falls to 7-19 overall and 0-3 against Region IX opponents. The matchup completes regular season Region IX action, but the Knights will play three more games before beginning postseason play.

Reece Halley and Samantha Riggles each finished with 11 points respectively, while Jada Grigsby chipped in 10 points and led the Knights on the glass with nine rebounds in the win.

The Bobcats came out firing from long range as four three pointers helped the visitors carry an 18-17 lead into the second quarter. North Platte responded with a 12-3 run to stretch their lead to 27-18 with 4:51 remaining before halftime.

Southeast quieted the crowd with a corner three, but a free throw line jumper from Riggles halted any chance at a game changing run. Bobcats and Knights traded field goals in the closing minutes, while North Platte managed to take a 31-23 lead into the break.

North Platte continued to roll in the third quarter as the margin was stretched to 43-24 on a Riggles putback. A 7-4 rally over the closing minutes helped Southeast narrow the margin to 47-31 headed into the final ten minutes.

Bobcats unloaded in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 51-41 on a three pointer by Matalynn Campbell. North Platte responded while holding on to the double-digit margin down the stretch to earn their seventh home win of the season.  

Knights hit the road for their final road trip of the season on Tuesday. Tip against the Western Nebraska Community College is set for 6:30 p.m. in Scottsbluff.
