Knights remain undefeated in Region IX play

Lincoln, Neb. – North Platte used an 11-0 run in the first quarter to pull away and earn the 68-55 win over Southeast Community College on Saturday. In the win, North Platte improves to 12-8 on the season and 2-0 in league play.

Nariah Golden led the Knights with 14 points, while Nevaeh Golden chipped in 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Dazjanae Greene and Jada Thompson rounded out the North Platte players in double figures with 11 points each.  

Jada Grigsby scored seven of the opening 13 points, as the Knights recaptured the lead on a pair of free throws with 2:48 to play in the first quarter. Back-to-back three pointers from Thompson extended the lead to seven, while the momentum helped the Knights carry a 22-12 lead into the second quarter.

Southeast put the Knights into foul trouble early, as they earned eleven opportunities at the free throw line in the second quarter. Despite the early foul trouble, North Platte still managed to carry a 37-27 lead into the halftime break.

Knights stretched their lead to 50-32 late in the third on a putback from Emily Johnson, while limiting the Bobcats to only 10 points in the frame. Southeast couldn't overcome the large deficit in the fourth quarter, as the Knights closed out the win to remain unbeaten in Region IX play.

North Platte concludes their three-game road trip with McCook Community College on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.
