Strong opening half propels Plainswomen past Knights

Sterling, Colo. – Dazjanae Greene led three North Platte players in double figures with 18 points, but it was not enough to cool off Northeastern Junior College in an 84-64 loss inside the Bank of Colorado Event Center on Saturday night.

Northeastern used a strong first half to build a 58-34 lead at the halftime break. The Plainswomen were quick to settle into their offensive rhythm, as they connected on 9-of-12 of their shots from long range in the opening half.

The Northeastern shooters did not cool off during the halftime break, as the lead stayed in double digits for the duration of regulation. Trailing 73-49, North Platte opened the final quarter on a 6-0 run, before Genesis Sweetwine connected from deep to extend the lead to 76-55 with 8:16 remaining. Northeastern continued to match the Knights down the stretch, as they put the finishing touches on their win.

North Platte (9-5) will continue their three-game road trip with Trinidad State College on Friday, Jan. 12. Tip is set for 6 p.m. in Trinidad, Colo.
