Knights drop doubleheader to Lamar

North Platte, Neb. – North Platte Community College Softball dropped two games to Lamar Community College Sunday, 17-8 and 9-6.

The Knights started off with an early lead in game one. Lili Kukučková grounded out, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning.

Lamar answered by recapturing the lead in the top of the second inning.

Four RBIs from Gwen Anderson weren't enough to save the Knights. Anderson drove in runs on a single in the first and a double in the fourth.

North Platte notched a total of four runs in the fourth inning. Taelyn Dakamas joined Anderson in leading the offensive firepower.

The Knights racked up eight hits altogether.

Angelina Lockhart toed the rubber for NPCC. The pitcher allowed 12 hits and 13 runs over three and a third innings, striking out two. Jenny Singer threw one and two-thirds innings in relief.

Both teams put up a bunch of runs in the second game, but ultimately, the Knights fell to the Antelope.

North Platte captured the lead in the second inning when Jayden Horner drew a walk, scoring one run. The Knights accumulated a total of three runs in the second inning, counting those by Kelsey Woodhouse

Lamar knotted the game up at four in the top of the third inning then took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth.

Dakamas was in the pitcher's circle for NPCC. The righthander lasted seven innings, allowing 15 hits and nine runs while striking out two.

North Platte tallied nine hits throughout the game. Elena Montoya and Woodhouse each had three.

"We continue to battle and have runners in scoring position," said Janelle Higgins, NPCC head women's softball coach. "We just have to adjust quicker and hit behind our runners to help ourselves out."

The scores put North Platte at 5-29 on the season.

The Knights will play Lamar again Monday in a doubleheader rescheduled from Saturday. First pitch is at 10 a.m. at the Dowhower Softball Complex in North Platte.
