Knights fall to Iowa Western

North Platte, Neb. – The North Platte Community College softball team dropped a doubleheader to Iowa Western Community College Wednesday evening in North Platte. The final scores were 13-3 and 13-5, both in favor of IWCC.

The Knights tied things up in the bottom of the first inning of the first game when Gwen Anderson singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. By the third inning, the Reivers scored two more runs and pulled away for good. 

Angelina Lockhart was in the circle for the Knights. The righty lasted five and a third innings, allowing 12 hits and 12 runs while striking out two. Jenny Singer threw two-thirds of an inning in relief. 

Anderson, Taelyn Dakamas, Cameron Rollison and Elena Montoya each managed one hit to lead North Platte. 

It was the Knights who captured the lead in the second game - Dakamas singled and drove in two. 

Jenny Singer was in the pitcher's circle for the Knights. She went two innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out four. Dakamas threw four innings out of the bullpen. 

Altogether, NPCC racked up 12 hits. Rollison, Kelsey Woodhouse and Anderson each collected multiples. Anderson led after going 4-for-4 at the plate. 

"IWCC is always a very tough ball club," said Janelle Higgins, NPCC head women's softball coach. "They hit the ball very well, and we played a little timid, but we are right there. We had a few innings tonight that we played on our heels and lost focus. Offensively, if we can eliminate leaving runners in scoring position, we will win games down the stretch. We continue to get better every day, and as a coaching staff, that's all we can ask for." 

North Platte is now 5-27 on the season. 

Next up, the Knights will play Lamar Community College in a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is at noon at the Dowhower Softball Complex in North Platte.
