Plainsmen sweep Knights in Saturday doubleheader

North Platte, Neb. - North Platte Community College Softball dropped a doubleheader to Northeastern Junior College Saturday in the Knights' first home games of the season.

NPCC watched the first game slip away early and had a tough time defensively containing the Plainsmen - ultimately falling 14-0.

Taelyn Dakamas started things out for the Knights. The pitcher allowed 13 hits and 14 runs over five innings, striking out one and walking one.

One of the highlights was Kelsey Woodhouse's double in the first inning. Cameron Rollison led the Knights with two hits in two at bats.

North Platte also fell behind early in the second game – unable to come back in a 24-4 loss.

Jenny Singer toed the rubber for the Knights. The righty lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing nine hits and 13 runs while striking out one.

Angelina Lockhart and Dakamas entered the game as relief, throwing three innings and one-third of an inning respectively.

The Knights socked two home runs on the day. Jayden Horner went for the long ball in the second inning, and Rollison went yard in the fourth inning.

Rollison's was one of three runs of an offensive onslaught by NPCC in the fourth inning - Esper Lewandowski also contributed a single.

Altogether, the Knights tallied 10 hits in the final game. Elena Montoya and Woodhouse each collected two hits to lead North Platte.

"We are playing very tight and trying not to lose," said Janelle Higgins, NPCC head women's softball coach. "We have to relax and play our game. If we do that, we will start turning things around. Our youth and lack of games is really showing right now. We are giving up way too many runs with two outs on defense. Tomorrow is a new day. We need to reset and come out ready to play our game."

The Knights are now 1-15 on the season.

They will battle the Plainsmen again Sunday in a doubleheader beginning at noon at the Dowhower Softball Complex.
