Knights bested by Spartans

North Platte Community College Softball lost both games of a Wednesday doubleheader against Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa.  

The score of the first game was 14-5. The Knights got things started in the first inning. Jayden Horner singled on a 0-1 count, earning two runs. 

The Spartans knotted the game up at 2 in the bottom of the first inning then pulled away for good with six runs in the second. 

Jenny Singer was in the circle for Knights. The righty lasted two innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs. Angelina Lockhart threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. 

North Platte put up three runs in the fifth inning. Kelsey Woodhouse, Gwen Anderson and Taelyn Dakamas powered through with RBIs. Elena Montoya led the Knights with two hits in three at bats. 

The Knights watched the second game slip away early – resulting in an 11-0 win for the Spartans. 

Taelyn Dakamas toed the rubber for NPCC. The righthander allowed seven hits and 11 runs over two innings, striking out two. Angelina Lockhart threw two innings in relief. 

Elena Montoya scored a single in the first inning, and Kelsey Woodhouse led the Knights with two hits in three at bats. 

"Our kids fought hard today," said Janelle Higgins, NPCC head women's softball coach. "We are getting better but had a setback today. Tomorrow is a new day and opportunity to do better, and we will." 

North Platte is now 1-11 on the season. 

The Knights will remain on the road through the end of the week. They will play Ellsworth Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
