Knights Softball drops final games of SCC Turf Tournament

The North Platte Community College softball team walked away without any wins from the two-day Southeastern Community College Turf Tournament in Burlington, Iowa.

NPCC played its final games Saturday against Southeastern Community College and Iowa Central Community College.

North Platte fell 9-1 to SCC. The Knights struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing the Blackhawks.

Angelina Lockhart, of Anchorage, Alaska, toed the rubber for the Knights. The righty surrendered nine runs on six hits over four innings, striking out three.

Gwen Anderson, of Lakewood, Colo., led the Knights with two hits in three at bats. North Platte was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Cameron Rollison, of Anchorage, Alaska, made the most plays with seven.

Iowa Central ran away with an early lead in the second game, during which the Knights sustained a 10-0 loss.

Taelyn Dakamas was on the rubber for NPCC. The pitcher surrendered 10 runs on nine hits over four innings, striking out two and walking one.

Anderson led with one hit in two at bats. She came through with a single in the fourth inning.

The Knights left Iowa 0-4 on the season.

"It was a growing weekend for us," said Janelle Higgins, NPCC head women's softball coach. "Our youth definitely showed this weekend. We had a better day defensively today, but our pitchers have to stay calm on the mound and limit our walks. And, our offense needs to adjust a little sooner."

The Knights play next in Norfolk. They will take on Northeastern Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. March 4.
