Colby, Kan. – North Platte men's basketball team opened up road action with a 75-65 win over Colby Community College on Tuesday night.
Simeon Smith led all scorers with a season high 22 points, while Davion Evans chipped in 21 points and eight rebounds in 37 minutes of action.
The first half belonged to the Knights, as they utilized a 23-2 run beginning at the 13:49 mark to take control of the game. Colby rebounded over the final 4:47 to cut the margin to 38-27 by halftime.
The adjustments were made by Colby during the halftime break, as they cut the deficit to 49-43 with 12:11 to play. The Trojan offense continued rolling in the second half to cut the deficit to one on a corner three by D'Necco Rucker.
The Knights lead drifted to six, but Colby once again narrowed the margin to one possession with 3:24 remaining. North Platte remained composed in the final minutes making the most of their free throw opportunities to close out the Trojans on the road.
Knights (2-1) will take a week off before returning to the hardwood Tuesday, Nov. 14 to take on Barton Community College. Tip is set for 7 p.m. inside the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.
