Roadrunners continue season

Nov. 15 Butler Community College at El Dorado, Kansas

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners lost 65-54 to the 14th-ranked Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas Nov. 15. The game was the first true road game for SFCC this season.

Butler led 12-7 about five minutes into the game. SFCC battled back to tie the contest at 19 courtesy of a three-point shot from sophomore forward Cliff Barrow with about nine minutes remaining in the half. Butler took a 37-31 lead into halftime and outscored SFCC 28-23 in the second half to secure the victory.

Freshman forward Thomas Diew and freshman forward Isaiah Jackson tied for the team lead in scoring with 10 points each. Jackson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and tied for the team lead in steals with freshman guard Alex Gunnels with two each. Jackson also registered a team-high two blocked shots. Freshman guard Steven Samuels registered a team-high three assists in the game.

Nov.17 North Platte Community College at Sedalia

SFCC opened their portion of the State Fair Classic with an 82-77 loss to North Platte Community College inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Friday night, Nov. 17. The game featured only two lead changes and one tie.

North Platte led 13-7 with 11 minutes and five seconds remaining the opening half. SFCC cranked up the full-court pressure to change the tempo. North Platte took a 36-30 lead at halftime. SFCC made runs several times to get the deficit within one possession but, North Platte had the answer every time and emerged with the victory.

Samuels led SFCC with 26 points on 10 of 14 shooting, including six of seven three-point shots. Samuels also tied for the team lead in steals with Gunnels with four each. Barrow chipped in with 13 points. Sophomore guard Elijah Edwards added 12 points. Jackson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and four assists.

"North Platte was the better team tonight," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "They were more physical. They were ready to play. I was extremely disappointed. I thought we would be ready."

Nov.18 Kansas City Kansas Community College at Sedalia

SFCC (3-5) closed out the State Fair Classic with a 76-72 loss to Kansas City Kansas Community College inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Saturday night, Nov. 18. The game featured four lead changes and six ties.

SFCC led 15-8 with about 13 minutes remaining in the opening half, courtesy of a 9-0 run. SFCC pushed the advantage to 29-17, which proved the largest advantage by either team. SFCC led 43-32 at halftime.

Kansas City Kansas refused to go away taking a one-point lead with six minutes and 32 seconds remaining in the contest. Kansas City Kansas made the plays down the stretch to secure the victory.

Barrow led the team in scoring with 21 points and six rebounds. Samuels pitched in with 20 points and tied for the team lead in assists with Jackson with three each. Jackson added 19 points. Edwards led the team in steals with two.

"We have to play defense," said Brown. "Our defense was terrible. We gave up too many straight-line drives. We are not a physical team at all."
