Women’s Basketball: Knights Overtake Raiders

The Central Community College women's basketball team lost at North Platte Community College, 76-58, on Friday night.

The Raiders trailed 56-53 after three quarters before the Knights outscored CCC, 20-5, in the final stanza to post the 18-point victory. North Platte held a 41-32 advantage at the half when Central rattled off an 11-4 run to open the third quarter to tie the score at 43 apiece at the 5:55 mark. The score remained close for the remainder of the period before the Raiders struggled in the fourth quarter.

The Knights outrebounded the Raiders, 54-41. Of the 54 North Platte rebounds, 21 were offensive.

"It was a physical game, but we just could not finish out the fourth quarter," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "Being the first game back after break, we got tired in the fourth quarter and gave up too many offensive rebounds."

Amy Mitchell led the Raiders in double-digit scoring with 16 points while Brittney Veik scored 11 points. Madisen Jelinek logged a double-double with 11 points and a dozen rebounds.

With the loss, the Raiders are 6-7 on the season and will be back in action on Saturday at McCook Community College. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
