Knights fall in final conference matchup to McCook
North Platte, Neb. – Knights wrapped up Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference action with a four-set loss to McCook Community College on Tuesday night.
Jaelyn Dicke led the way with 13 kills, 17 digs and two assisted blocks. Zoe Maher added eight kills to accompany her 10 digs and two assisted blocks.
A 3-0 rally propelled the Indians to a 7-4 lead in the opening set. North Platte surged back to retake the lead on a net violation, 9-8. The lead would change hands three more times throughout the course of the first set. Back-to-back attacking errors evened the match at 23, before two straight points secured the set for the road team.
North Platte leapt out to a 14-1 lead in the second set after a block from Nya Lual. Knights continued to dominate the set until a late 9-1 run pulled the Indians back within three, 23-20. The black and gold went back to work and closed the set out with kills from Maher and Dicke.
The margin stayed under three in the opening moments of the third set until a 4-0 run pushed the Indians out to a 14-9 lead. North Platte managed to cut the deficit to two on an attacking error, but McCook closed out the set on an 8-1 run to take the 2-1 set advantage.
Knights traded points with the Indians to open the fourth set. McCook caught fire with a 5-1 run to build an 11-6 lead. The Indians continued to extend their lead over the remainder of the set to put the finishing touches on their four-set win.
Knights (12-23) will conclude the regular season at home on Saturday against Lamar Community College. Serve is set for 2 p.m. inside the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.
