NPCC Volleyball wraps up regular season with loss to Northeast

The North Platte Community College Volleyball team fell to Northeast Community College in Norfolk Thursday in the last regular game of the season.

The Knights won the first and third sets against the Hawks but were ultimately unable to maintain the momentum. The final scores were: 26-24, 18-25, 26-24, 23-25 and 11-15.

Vanessa Wood led the offense for the Knights with 15 kills. Tyrah Woods notched 13 more kills, Karley Spillane added eight and Emily Johnson had seven.

Avah Steggall totaled 44 assists in the match. Alexis Becerra went for 15 digs while teammates Amauri Browning and Tessa Metschke each contributed another 14.

"We had a balanced attack today and put ourselves in positions to win but couldn't finish sets," said NPCC Volleyball Head Coach Alexa McCall. "Our effort was better today, but we just found ourselves too complacent and allowed them to catch back up."

The Knights will host Southeast Community College next week in the opening round of the Region IX Postseason Tournament, entering the tourney as the #2 seed. First serve is at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

The winner will play Central Community College at 3 p.m. Oct. 29 in Columbus.
