Knights late rally falls short against Lancers

Torrington, Wyo. – A strong first quarter lifts Eastern Wyoming to a 67-59 win over North Platte Community College on Friday.

EmmaJo Locks recorded 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, while Jada Thompson notched 13 points and four rebounds in the loss.

Eastern Wyoming used a 14-2 run to open up a 19-10 lead in the first quarter. The margin grew into double digits until an 8-0 run cut the margin to 29-23 with 2:16 remaining. Eastern Wyoming countered with a 5-3 burst to take an eight-point lead into halftime.

Knights used a 4-0 run to trim the deficit to six on a bucket by Madison Cheleen with 7:12 to play in the third. The deficit was extended back into double digits until a 9-2 run that stretched into the fourth quarter trimmed the margin to 55-51. The Lancers continued to hold on to their lead, while matching the Knights down the stretch to earn the win.

North Platte (6-5) will wrap up their weekend road trip on Saturday against Laramie County Community College. Tip is set for 3 p.m. in Cheyenne, Wyo.
