Knights Softball drops doubleheader to SWCC

Creston, Iowa The North Platte Community College Knights Softball Team watched their first game of a doubleheader slip away early Friday afternoon. They were ultimately unable to recover in a 6-1 loss against Southwestern Community College.

Nevaeh Ramirez, of Thornton, Colo., was in the pitcher's circle for Knights. She lasted six innings, allowing three hits and six runs while striking out six.

Ashlyn Wheeling, of Thornton, Colo., Jace Cundiff, of El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Essence McRae, of Las Vegas, Nev., each managed one hit to lead the Knights.

The Knights got on the board in the first inning of the second game when an error scored them one run.

They followed that up with four runs in the fifth inning. Zoey Bredleau-Beehler, of Portland, Ore., and Madisyn Hamar, of Chadron, each had RBIs in the frame.

Jordan Young, of Johnstown, Colo., toed the rubber for the Knights. She lasted two innings, allowing five hits and seven runs while striking out two.

Kyleigh Sullivan, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jenny Singer, of Calgary, Alberta, entered the game as relief, throwing one and one-third innings and two-thirds of an inning, respectively.

The Knights smacked one home run on the day. Bredleau-Beehler had a four bagger in the fifth inning. Jayden Horner, of Firestone, Colo., went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Knights in hits.

The Knights eventually fell to SWCC 23-5. They are now 3-13 on the season.

Next up, the Knights head to Columbus. They will take on Central Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.
