Knights softball hits winning streak in Kansas

North Platte Community College Knights Softball Team dominated Northwest Kansas Technical College Tuesday defeating the Mavericks 19-3 and 8-2.

In game one of the doubleheader, the Knights got things started in the first inning when an error pushed the opening run across the plate. Jordan Young, of Johnstown, Colo., would not be denied, singling in the first and second innings and notching two hits in the fourth.

The Knights scored nine runs in the fourth inning. Young, Kirsten Greenwalt, of Aurora, Colo.; Jenny Singer, of Calgary, Alberta; Madisyn Hamar, of Chadron; Ashlyn Wheeling, of Thornton, Colo., and Jayden Horner, of Firestone, Colo., powered the big inning with RBIs.

Nevaeh Ramirez, of Thornton, Colo., toed the rubber for the Knights, allowing eight hits and three runs over five innings, striking out six and walking one.

The Knights scattered 12 hits in the game. Young, Greenwalt and Jace Cundiff, of El Dorado Springs, Mo., each collected multiple hits. Young went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the Knights in hits.

The Knights then defeated the Mavericks in the second game - thanks in part to Zoey Bredleau-Beehler, of Portland, Ore., who drove in four runs. Bredleau-Beehler pushed the Knights baserunners across the plate with a single in the second, a double in the third and a sacrifice fly in the fifth. She singled on a 1-1 count in the second inning, scoring one run.

The Knights tallied four runs in the third inning. Cundiff, Bredleau-Beehler and Singer all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Pitcher Kyleigh Sullivan, of Fort Worth, Texas, allowed four hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out eight.

The Knights tallied 10 hits. Cundiff, Bredleau-Beehler and Horner each had multiple hits. Cundiff led the Knights with three hits in four at bats.

The Knights are now 3-5 on the season. They will travel to Council Bluffs, Iowa on Friday to take on Iowa Western Community College in a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
