Knights fall in 2021 season opener at Eastern Wyoming

The Knights men's basketball team opened up their 2021 season on the road tonight in Torrington, Wyo. as they faced off against Eastern Wyoming Community College. Knightssuffered their first loss of the season to the Lancers, 88-64.

The game was close early as the two teams traded shots back and forth. Sophomore Slavomyr Marchenko got the Knights (0-1) their first official field goal of the delayed 2021 basketball season after the Lancers connected on back-to-back three-point shots, 6-3. The Knights fought hard defensively and was able to knot the game up afterTrevon Dennisfound teammate German Plotnikov under the basket for the easy lay in.

The Knights retook the lead on a Jason Eubank jumper bythe 14-minute mark, 11-9, but then the Lancers offense came alive. Eastern Wyoming would outscore the Knights 37-17 the rest of the half and led by 22 at the break, 48-26.

Hot shooting kept the Lancers comfortably out front throughout the second half as they shot 49.2 percent from field goal range (31-of-63) and 45.7 percent from beyond the arc (16-of-35) on the night.

Plotnikov lead the Knights in scoring with 17 points, Marchenko chipped in 13 points, and Eubank rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.

The Knights will look to capture their first win of the season when they return to the court on Saturday, January 24 to take on Laramie County Community College. Tip is set for 5:00pm CT.
