
TRINIDAD, Colo. – The RV Trinidad State College volleyball squad went a perfect 4-0 over the weekend as the team downed Clarendon (3-1), North Platte (3-0), Eastern Wyoming (3-2), and Frank Phillips (3-1) and finished as Co-Champions of the 2024 Southern Colorado Classic held inside Scott Gym.
GAME 1: RV Trinidad State 3, Clarendon 1 (25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 26-24)
The Trojans had a balanced effort as three players tallied over 10 kills in match. Jaedyn Fuqua (Fr., Albuquerque, N.M.) finished the match with 15 kills, 16 digs, and 4 blocks while teammate Amya Speller (So., Monument, Colo.) tallied 14 kills, a .303 hitting percentage and 5 blocks. Deniz Yıleri (So., Adana, Turkey) added 13 kills and 16 digs while Jordan Garcia (So., Albuquerque, N.M.) tallied 16 digs and 3 assists.
GAME 2: RV Trinidad State 3, North Platte 0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-14)
The RV Trojans dominated the Knights from the start and didn't look back. Speller led the Trojans with 10 kills off 11 attempts for an outstanding .909 hitting percentage and 2 blocks. The Trojans tallied 10 total blocks compared the Knights 2 while holding North Platte to a .068 hitting percentage as a team.
GAME 3: RV Trinidad State 3, Eastern Wyoming 2 (21-25, 14-25, 25-21, 25-23, 18-16)
The highlight match of the weekend came early Saturday morning when the Lancers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over the Trojans. Despite all momentum in the Lancers favor, the Trojans rallied to pull off a reverse sweep and walk out with a 3-2 win.
TSC posted a .267 and .302 hitting percentage in the 3rd and 4th sets, respectively, and also tallied 24 blocks.
GAME 4: RV Trinidad State 3, Frank Phillips 1 (25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 25-17)
Trinidad State capped off the classic with a dominating 3-1 win over Frank Phillips. Speller dominated the net once again and led the match with 18 kills, a .708 hitting percentage, and 4 blocks while teammate Ellie Ames (So., Delta, Colo.) added 13 kills and 2 blocks. Garcia and Yıleri each tallied 15 digs while Fuqua added 10 of her own.
The Trojans will be back in action this coming weekend against Independence, Amarillo, Frank Phillips, and Western Texas at the FirstBank Southwest Tournament hosted by Amarillo College.
